November 12 - 15

ELA:
Students should now have their first draft of their Gothic stories handed in. I will be working with the students one-on-one for the next couple of weeks. We will be now starting a class novel called Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelson, This novel is based around the premise of the YCJA objectives, and is great for reinforcing those concepts already learned.

SOCIAL:
We are now moving to Jury and Jury Duty in Social, We will complete a mock trial to reinforce the concepts learned this week. Our 'Jury' will have to determine if the defendant would be found guilty.  Please use the following link to better understand the trial process. Trial PPT

MATH:
Started learning about polynomials this week and the lessons included grouping like terms, simplifying as well as adding and subtracting polynomials. Workbook assignments so far include pp,180-182, 189-191, 194-198, 201  #1a,b (note: sometimes pages in the workbook have very easy and a limited number of questions. The workbook also has only easier level 1 and 2 questions whereas the textbook and in-class questions often include harder questions.)

SCIENCE:
All students should have completed and handed in their space project last week (November 7th was the due date. (To check if your child has handed in the assignment see Power School Marks under space major research project. If it says missing then they have not handed it in. If it’s simply blank then the student handed it in but the mark for this particular assignment is not yet recorded.) The project should have included rough notes, bibliography/references and their final product. Please ask your child if they’ve handed in their project, what they learned and how they feel they did on their overall product that demonstrates their learning.

This week, students have started learning about biological diversity, how it developed and continues to develop.

Human Evolution video students started to watch Friday, November 15
